Discover the Best Christianbook Gems
Throughout our 30+ years of homeschooling, my family and I have purchased many things from Christianbook. We have been able to get some great prices on the sales and have collected curriculum, Bibles, and books that we have loved. There are so many great things to choose from, so I want to share some of our absolute favorites. Autumn is here and it is filling many of us with the excitement of getting all curled up with a cozy book to read! And with Christmas coming up, I know that many of these things will make great gifts for family and friends!
Christianbook has so many good books, novel series, and dvd sets of our favorite tv shows. If you shop through my affiliate links it helps me to continue sharing what I am sure you will love and enjoy at no extra cost to you. I only share what my family and I recommend and have enjoyed personally.
Christianbook Bibles:
I was so excited to find this Bible in hardcover. Recently I have enjoyed reading the Passion Translation and studying all the notes. This Bible is always on my nightstand along with my devotional books and journals.
As more of the Passion Translation is released, I like to collect the latest books. These are the most recent ones that are not included in my Bible.
If you are looking for a more in-depth KJV Bible with notes, this one is what I got many years ago. This was my study Bible for my college curriculum and I loved all the notes and cross references. I enjoyed using this for many years and still keep it close by.
I grew up with one of these Bible story books and it will always be special to me. With sweet simple pictures and just the right amount of words this is a great first Bible for children.
Children’s Books:
For those who absolutely love the Mandie series but have a hard time finding all the small individual books, this is a great way to collect the whole series. These are large volumes containing many books in each and are a great addition to a girls bookshelf!
My youngest brother was really interested in this series many years ago as a young boy. I was so excited to find all the sets to the whole series available and on sale at the time. These are a classic set for boys of all ages and girls love them as well.
This series is a comforting and fun set of books to read aloud to your girls or let them snuggle up and read to you even! Full of adventure and humor, these are a must-read for all girls who enjoy wholesome stories full of whit and wisdom!
I am thrilled to see these on a sale right now! I loved this series as a young girl – historical fiction is truly my favorite genre. These are so much fun and full of adventure for any girl who loves a good book!
If you have seen my other blog post on read-alouds for the whole family, you know that this series is a favorite. This 7 book set, written by Edward Dunlop, is easy for younger children to understand as it teaches many lessons in an interesting yet simple way. The series is a simple allegorical story about a boy, his King, and the choices he makes. They also have a follow-up series with more stories from Terrestria called Tales from Terrestria.
My brother was thrilled to get this series new as a gift many years ago. They are a thrilling allegorical medieval fiction series for older children. They have easily become an absolute favorite for our entire family as they are captivating and intriguing. A true page-turner series for young or older teens! Following this series is Chuck Black’s next one called The Knight’s of Arrethtrae Series.
Audio Dramas:
Many years ago when Radio Theatre first came out, I was so excited to purchase the cd audio dramas from Christianbook for my family for Christmas. I waited and waited and was thrilled when everyone including myself absolutely loved them! We have listened and re-listened to these over and over again through the years during our project time. They have a full-cast of characters and music that are sure to captivate you and your children, making you feel like you are right there in the story! These will always be a favorite!
Homeschool Curriculum:
Because I grew up with Saxon Math and loved it, I will always recommend it to those who are wondering where to start in their homeschool math journey. My mom collected every one of the books and we were thrilled to find many on sale through Christianbook.
Saxon Math gave me confidence at a very young age as it simply but steadily builds on what was already taught. Because of Saxon, I love math and I love teaching it! I have been a math tutor to my younger siblings for years and I still absolutely enjoy teaching it to the littles who love to learn. Their faces light up when they see math can be fun and is a part of everyday life!
Many years ago, my mom and I started to look for a better grammar curriculum- something to fill in the gaps of the one we were currently using. When we discovered Saxon Grammar, we were thrilled.
As my younger siblings were just getting to upper grades, we decided to start with the 8th grade Grammar and Writing new from Christianbook. We absolutely love the way it is set up like a Saxon Math lesson and is so simple and straightforward with lots of practice that builds the student’s confidence. This grammar covers writing, vocabulary, and spelling as well.
I would recommend this grammar curriculum to any homeschool family who wants something that teaches simply, but in depth.
In the later years of our homeschool journey, we were also feeling a change in our science curriculum. Through some research, we discovered Apologia Science and have come to enjoy it. They have a Young Explorer series for children grades 3-6 and then a whole collection of middle and high school books. These cover all topics like general science, physical science, biology, chemistry, physics, and the human body. They are very well written and also include experiments to make it fun and easy to apply.
We have collected the whole set of Apologia Science and we would recommend them!
Christian Books:
My family and I have collected most of the books by John and Stasi Eldredge from Christianbook. They are full of deep encouragement and soul-inspiring words of wisdom. We recommend all their books starting with Fathered By God, Captivating, Wild at Heart, and Walking with God.
Emily P. Freeman is another one of my favorite authors who shows how to find the simple joys in everyday life. I love how encouraging and easy to read her books are. Graceful is a wonderful book for young teenage girls who need a note of encouragement and understanding.
Joanna Weaver’s books are well written and inspiring. Read how Martha and Mary felt as two very different sisters yet so special to Jesus in their own ways. Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World and Having a Mary Spirit are two of my favorites from this author.
Angela Thomas opens the hearts of every woman in her book Do You Think I’m Beautiful as she ask the question that we all ask. This book was a light of encouragement to me many years ago and I loved reading it again recently.
Adult Novels:
If you are ready for an eye-opening spiritual journey that will make you not want to put the book down, then these are the books for you. They are so full of imagination, yet so real at the same time that you will never forget the adventure they take you on. Soul’s Gate is the first in James Rubart’s Well Springs series.
Another of our favorite authors, Davis Bunn has written many different books in different settings and times in history. All of his books are packed with mystery and adventure that will keep you at the edge of your seat. The Book of Hours is my favorite of his novels that I have read.
For those who love the ‘When Calls the Heart’ tv series as well as the ‘Love Comes Softly’ movie series, you will love to read the original books by Janette Oke. These books are clean western historical fiction and fun to read aloud to your children or on your own. I absolutely love the series she wrote with Davis Bunn called “Acts of Faith” that makes the New Testament stories come alive.

For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep,
we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
