7 Favorite Field Trip Adventures I love as a Nanny

field trip adventures

Spring is in full bloom and before we know it summer will be here! I love taking my nanny kids out on adventures during these seasons! There are many places we can go to have fun and make lots of memories. I’ve compiled a list of field trip adventures that we love to go on often during this time and why they are so special. I hope this gives you some ideas for your summer days!

Family Farms

field trip adventures

We are blessed to live near a few small family farms that have some fun activities for kids. I just make sure the kids have extra water and wear hats!

The children love to visit with the animals at these farms and some even let them feed the animals if you come at the right time. For a child that isn’t able to have farm animals, getting to pet a goat or sheep, cow or pig is something special for them. They might even see some special other animals like alpacas or llamas and sometimes something else surprising. (I love seeing alpacas as I had a good experience with them when I was younger. I got to lead a family’s alpaca pack around their woods!)

A few farms that I have been to with the kids have had many other activities for them to do. From free activities like slides, sandpits, climbing structures, and hill slides, to paid experiences like hay rides and pedal cars, there are many things to keep kids busy on a long day.

Oh, also, at many of these places there are gem mining opportunities! I remember when I took the kids to one and they loved finding all sorts of cool rocks and gems as well as arrowheads!

We are in the peek strawberry season now this month, so this is always a fun treat! The kids can pick their own little bins of berries and then get to eat them! Fresh strawberries are so delicious!!!

Yes, family farms are truly the best and I love collecting some of their ideas as I save up for my own mini farm dream.

Indoor Playgrounds

For those rainy spring days or too-hot summer days, there are other options! Indoor playgrounds are popping up more and more where we live and the kids love them! There are so many places to hide and slide and climb up into in these fun places. Many have a larger area for big kids and a small area for little ones making them feel safer and explore in their own way.

These indoor playgrounds are so much fun for kids of all ages and I love that a good many of them also have cafes so moms can sit and relax as their kids play.

Outdoor Parks

Of, course, the simple playground is always a must for kids when they need to get their wiggles out! I am amazed at the advancement of the equipment from when I was young. A slide and a swing set any day is fun for me.

My nanny kids and I have been to all of the parks near us and we pick our favorite for the days when we are out. We sometimes pack up lunch or get a special popsicle treat to cool off with at the park.

Besides the playground, there are some parks with paved paths that are perfect for scooters or bikes or wiggle cars. AND we are always on the lookout for a good book box or free little library! You never know what treasured book we might find!

There are also some parks that have splash pads making it a great way to cool off on a hot summer day!

Roller Skating Rinks

Another great indoor activity, roller skating is a favorite. Sometimes you just need to get out onto the rink and test your skills. I even got myself a new pair of roller blades several years ago and have been pushing myself to skate more as I watched these kids with amazing talent!

The kids and I look forward to an afternoon of skating!

Science Centers

field trip adventures

I can’t tell you how much the kids love a good children’s science center or museum. Full of fun things to do, they will never be bored and in fact it is so hard to leave!

We love the one near us and the kids beg to go back often. They had so many cool things like a wind speed capsule, a huge light bright, a paper airplane launcher, and a huge water table that the little ones absolutely loved! The big kids even got to do a virtual reality ride!

The imagination is endless in places like these and they make for a fantastic field trip!

Children’s Museums

Children’s museums are like other worlds. They are so much fun for little ones and big ones. Discovery Place museums are some of the best! I love the areas that are set up just for kids like small towns and grocery stores. I remember when I was young and loved feeling that things were just my size so I can imagine the joy that kids get to experience now as they pretend they are a cashier at a grocery store, or a police officer in a small town. They can pretend they are a fire chief, a vet, a farmer milking a cow, a mechanic fixing a car or whatever they want!

Many of these museums also have indoor playgrounds, climbing walls, or water tables as well. They are so much fun and worth the afternoon out!

Libraries

Of course, libraries will always be a favorite place to go whatever the season or the weather. For children who love to read, libraries are amazing places to discover new books and put on an occasional puppet show!

There are many afternoons that the kids and I will load up on books and check out. Then the whole car ride home will be quiet as they read and reread all of those books! I just love it.

Used Book Stores

One bonus fun place to go is used book stores. When the kids have a specific book or series that they want to collect, sometimes I find the time in crazy day to stop at a local book store. They search and get rewarded when they find what they are looking for and we might get to grab a fun family movie to add to their dvd collection as well!

Since becoming a nanny, my life has opened up in so many ways. I love getting to experience all these places with the kids in my care – but mostly it is because I love watching them have the best time as we create new memories. I get to see their interests grow and watch what each one loves individually. This is the best part of life.

I am so grateful for all these places and the fun we are blessed with. I love going on adventures with the my nanny children!

What is your favorite of these adventures? What other fun field trips do you like to take your kids on?
